Meeting Overview
A new IEA EBC Annex titled Human-centric Building Design and Operation for a Changing Climate is being proposed to start in mid-2024. This five-year project will involve approximately 100 researchers and other professionals from diverse fields such as engineering, architecture, social sciences, planning, health sciences, etc. A two-day workshop on April 3 and 4 in Boston (in-person participation only) will be used to refine the scope, set priorities, identify key research activities, and begin to develop a workplan inlcuding the following subtasks.
Building (Re)Design:
Determine how buildings can be designed, refurbished, and/or modified to encourage and accommodate behavioural changes essential for a successful energy transition and accommodate future climates
Humans’ Role in Operation:
Understand the roles of designers, operators, and other stakeholders in shaping modern trends in energy consumption patterns (e.g. work from home, extreme events etc.)
Wellbeing, Equity, and Behaviour of Occupants:
Study how extreme events influence the behaviour of individuals and how climate change will impact the wellbeing of occupants, equitable access to comfort and healthy indoor spaces
